METHODIST QUARTERLY MEETING AND THE REV. S. LAWRY .
Sir,lf Mr. Shackelford had been as well & informed oil what took place at the Dnr.ediu Conference as he gives me credit for being, I he would have known that tl » "previous question" was moved after conversation {*>. tween the mover of the amendment and ray, self, in which we both agreed that at that - stage no vote on the main >*i*m> could be ' decisive or satisfactory, and that the "pro. vidua' question" was moved by an ardent ad- t vocate of an independent conference. I do p not forget either th" number or the quality * : of the speeches again?!, but these had noth- i : ing to do with the point now under discus- 5 sion. It was not my fault that my letter {<> |, the Outlook did not appear earlier; but it whs early enough for the purpose of asking the quarterly meetings to consider the matter! Whether or not my asking them to do this is "unconstitutional" is 'a matter that " can be decided in a proper court. The iPitt- I street quarterly meeting was quite at liberty g to express it* want of sympathy with the, ?> proposals ' for an ;independent conference- f: but my point is that it had no right to con'.' stitute itself a court of judicature, and pronounce sentence on my conduct. I m an. swerablo to the conference for my'conduct, and not to any quarterly meeting. If m action is thought "misleading and unconstitutional," let someone raise the question in t: the proper court, and I shall be happy to ? defend myself. Samuel Lawrt. Ohnstchurch, October 29. 1906.
