The: number of births constitutes a record Tor the past 20 years, being the same as the figures for August, 1886. The number of deaths ucorded last month was higher than usual, but this was due to the prevalence of measles, whooping cough, etc., which caused the death of 24 infants. For 10 months of this year there has been an increase of 57 births, as compared with last year, the figures being 1338 and 1271 respectively. The marriages recorded from January 1 to October 31 total 495, as against 490 for the corresponding period of 1905.
