WALLABIES ON RANGITOTO.
Sir,—The paragraph appearing in this morning's HERALD in reference to the killing of a wallaby near Asliburton has caused me to make mention of the fact that I saw on Kangitoto Island on Sunday last the skins of four or five 'possums and one wallaby in various stages of "curing." There was no attempt at secrecy in the matter, which- led me to assume that the action of .he men guilty of tho act was entirely thoughtless. It is a great pity that these harmless and inoffensive animals should be killed off in this manner, and I really think that some protection should be afforded importations of this class. I sincerely hope that the publication of this fact will prevent future acts of vandalism, of a like character, for every lover of'nature must deplore the almost entire absence of animal life from the lovely wooded lands of this colony..' October 30. Attractive Importations.
