MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

In the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. C. 0. Kettle, S.M., gave ■ judgment in favour of W. Monaghan against J. Lynch, for £4 15s sd, the amount to bo paid within 14 days; in default, .48 hours' imprisonment. Thomas George Grigg (Mr. McLean) v. 0. H. Fairwcather (Mr. J. R. Lundon), for £15 193: The evidence disclosed tho fact that the parties were brothers-in-law, and the plaintiff had allowed the defendant and his wife to stay at his house during an illness. of tho latter. The magistrate, in giving judgment, said that some of the items on tho claim showed tho spirit in which it was made. He would not say too much, for if he did they might not be' very pleasant remarks for tho plaintiff to hear. The plaintiff's action in stuffing the claim with unfair items was vindictive apd unchristian. He would leave it to tho conscience of Mr. and Mrs. Fairweatlicr to make any recompense they thought they Should to their sister-in-law. The three items referred to by the magistrate were: Vase broken, 9s 6d ; enema supplied, 7s 6d ; and to board and attendance on Mrs, Fairweather, £12. The magistrate gave judgmet for. the amount admitted, £3 2s. No costs were allowed, the magistrate remarking that the plaintiff did not deserve any consideration.
