Vile, a member of the Wellington Board of Education, left for ■■ the South yesterday by the Rarawa. The Rev. Edward Walker, Presbyterian minister, well known ,in connection with ' legislative temperance reform, left for the South by the s.s. Rarawa yesterday, and intends residing at Queenstown, Lcke Wakatipu. At the September quarterly meeting of ' the Auckland Methodist Missions, held on Tuesday evening, a unanimous invitation was extended to the Rev. J. Wilson to take charge of the amalgamated missions of Freeman's Bay and Newton next year. Mr. ■ Wilson established the present mission in Newton, and has carried it on with conspicuous success for the past three years in the Foresters' Hall. Mr. A. T. Hookey (of the firm of Messrs. "A. Clark and Co.) who has been transferred from the Wanganui house to Gisborne, was on Saturday evening presented with a handsome silver hot-water kettle and stand. Mr. A. Hatrick (president of the club) made the presentation on behalf of s the members. Mr. Hatrick took advantage of the opportunity to extend a '*'... welcome to Wanganui to Mr. Smith, Mr. : Hookey's successor. Mr. Wm, Allan, who has held the position of superintendent of the Mount Cook Sunday-school, Wellington, for the past 24£ years, and who is retiring after 29 years' connection with the school, was entertained at a social gathering on Monday night by the officers of St. John's : Church and the teachers of the Mount Cook and Willis-street Sunday-schools. During the evening, the Rev. Dr. Gibb took the opportunity of presenting Mr. Allan with a gold watch and chain. The chain was the present of the scholars of the Mount Cook school, and the watch from the teachers of the Mount Cook school and the officers of St. John's Church., -
