MAORI COMMITS SUICIDE.
THOUGHT HE WAS BEWITCHED. [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS association.] Wairoa (H. 8.), Thursday. A.v inquest was held at Te Maato, Erasertown, on the body of Waata Hairoa. The j evidence showed that the deceased considered that he had been "makutu'd" (be--1 witched) by the natives. Rua, the alleged ' " prophet," had denounced him as the cause of recent calamities to the Maoris, and this * had preyed on his mind. A verdict was ' returned that the deceased .shot himself '' whilst of unsound mind.
