THE WANAKA. The Union Company's steamer Wanaka, Captain W. Stevens, arrived from the South and Napier at 8 a.m. yesterday and berthed at the Hobsonstreet Wharf. The steamer left the Bluff on October 5 and called at Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Napier. Left the latter port at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, passed the East Cape at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, and arrived a.* above, having experienced fine weather throughout the passage. The Wanaka leaves for Napier and the Bluff to-mor-row. ■ii .. i 111 THE NORTHERN CHIEF. The barque Northern Chief, Captain Reid, arrived from Newcastle yesterday afternoon after a lengthy passage of 26 "days. The master reports sailing from Newcastle on September 15, and had to contend against a succession of gales from between east and south-east, accompanied by tremendous seas, nearly the whole of that time. The Three Kings were made on the nineteenth dayout, but the wind still continued from about the same quarter down the coast. Cape Brett was passed on Tuesday last, mid then north and northeast winds were met with, continuing until arrival. The' Northern Chief brings-a cargo of coat for the Colonial Sugar Works, and will discharge at Chelsea. PORT OF ONEHUNGA. ARRIVALS, Rarawa, s.s., 1057, W. F. Norbury, from New Plymouth.
