Bines, D. H. Sissons, R. B. Lusk, R. G. Edgecumbe, and W. C. Speight. ;; A letter was read from Mr. Mills resigning his position as a member of tho committee owing to taking up his residence in the Waikato. The resignation was received with regret, and Mr. J. G. Lecky was elected to fill the vacancy. The headmaster reported that the number on the roll was 595, and'that the average attendance during the past month had been 567.2." , , POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE. ~ The usual fortnightly meeting of;' the Independent Political Labour League was held ■'". at Palmerston Buildings last 'evening;' Mr. H. S. Horning in tho chair. Amongst the correspondence was a letter from Mrs. Neill, as to hours of labour of nurses at the Maternity Home. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Saddlers' Union, re affiliating with the league.. .It was reported that the fellmongers, tanners, and soapworkers , had Unanimously decided to affiliate with the league. Mr. Gemmell notified that at next meeting ho would move the appointment of 'a committee to visit, the hospitals. He pointed out that there were members of unions in the hospitals, and no one at present visited 'them. The secretary, Mr. Aggers", resigned his position owing to ill-health. . The resignation was accepted with regret, and Mr. Oliver Mason was appointed to the position. The secretary was instructed to ar- , range with the Wellington executive for Mr. Ramsay McDonald, M.P., to speak in Auckland. A vote of appreciation of the .action of those members who supported the food nationalisation proposal" was v carried, and Mr. Poole was condemned for voting against the proposal. - -~" -.-."•■■ • •■- ' -.• ■t, ,-.•--, :■.-'"'■ PITT-STREET METHODIST .CHURCH. , Tho annual meeting of the Pitt-street Methodist Church was held last evening. There was a good attendance, and the Rev. J. A. Lnxford (pastor of the church) occupied the chair. The Chairman dwelt on the steady progress made by the church, and the increased attendance, especially of young, members. He thanked the various officers of the church for the work. they ,ad done during the year. The annual report stated tat notwitstanding a continuous stream of removals to the suburbs, and services held elsewhere with what had been called "modern attractions," the evening services had been well maintained. 'One of the most gladdening features of the evening congregations had been the -large proportion of young men. The absence of many children from the Sunday-school, was commented upon. For foreign missions the circuit last year had raised £215 19s' 6d, and for home • missions £273 Is 9d. During tho'year the congregation had contributed £456 19s lOd to the circuit fund. The amount received for the poor fund allowed of small gratuities to several in poor circumstances. Tho bal-ance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year totalled £258 10s Id, and, the expenditure £432 10s lOd, leaving a debit bank balance of £174 0s 9d, an increase over last year. It was explained that a large expenditure had been; incurred in effecting alterations to buildings to ..conform with the city by-laws. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. During the evening brief addresses wore giver by the Revs. B. F. Rothwell, G. Bond, arid W.' Grigg, and tho Rev. G. W. J. ■Spence offered up prayer. The choir, under the baton of Mr. H. E. Light, rendered anthems, and solos were iven by. Miss Millie. Peak, arid; 'Messrs. Nicholson and H.'Lange. •,;'■■ ;■'-. > DEVONPORT' METHODIST SUNDAYSCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. The anniversary of the Devonport Methodist Sunday-school was celebrated by special services last Sunday and a soiree on Tuesday evening, arid proved a great success. Under the capable leadership of Mr. Frank Gribbin the singing of the scholars,' assisted by the orchestra, reached a high level of excellence. The preachers on Sunday were the Rev. George Bond (chairman of the district) morning and afternoon, and the Rev. W. R. Tuck in the evening. On Tuesday evening after the usual tea the annual meeting took place, the Rev'. S. , Griffith presiding. Mr. Robert. Clark, secretary, and Mr. H. Wilding, .treasurer, presented their reports, showing the school to be in a'very healthy condition. -A bright . programme was then submitted, including hymns by the children, songs by the Misses Lloydd and • Wilke and Mr.; Carson, instrumental items by the Misses Gribbin and Messrs. Gribbin and Cochrane, recitations by the Misses Roberts,' Cochrane, and Broughton, and Master Armitago, aiso.a humorous address by Mr. T. T. Garland. . OLD THAMES BOYS' ASSOCIATION.. A successful reunion of the Old Thames' Boys' Association was held in Mr. F. Wilson's diningroom. Endean's Buildings, last night. ' The president (Mr. Wm. Blomfield) occupied tho chair. The resignation of Mr. Arthur E. Greonslade as'.secretary was accepted with regret, and Mr. B. M. "Myers was elected to the vacancy. Mr. Arthur E. Greenslaclo was elected . a - vice-president ot the association. Several reminiscenses of the early Thames days were related by Messrs. W. S. Aickin, and Henry Fletcher. An enjoyable programme was "contributed. ' "HUMOURS OF CLERICAL LIFE." "Last night the Rev. H. Mason, of Otahuhu, gave a very interesting and amusing lecture on the "Humours of Clerical-Life." in St. Peter's Parish Hall, Ouchunga. There was a largp attendance. ' Some of tho experiences of a - country parson's life wero given with a life-like touch, the . spealkei- frequently eliciting hearty; laughter by his descriptions.
