THE NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERIES.

FOREIGN OFFICE BLUNDER. INTENDED STRONG PROTEST. -:• By Telegraph.— Association.*—Copyright. (Received October 9, 12.44 am.) London, October 8. The Newfoundland Ministers and members of Parliament are extremely hostile to the new fisheries vivendi between Great Britain and the United States, and it is reported that the Ministers intend to resign as a protest against the abandonment of the colony's rights. This is an arrangement for the .settlement of the long-standing dispute between Newfoundland and the American; fishermen. The latter had violated the Newfoundland regulations, and had been ordered off the fishing ground. An American cruiser was sent to Newfoundland's waters in August, in connection with the dispute. The trouble began in October of last year.. Under the regulations of Newfoundland \the fishing must be with bait, and the Americans were prohibited from taking bait, within the three-mile limit free of charge, as they had been in the habit of doing. Then they employed Newfoundlanders to take the bait, and deliver it to them outside the three-mile limit. This practice also was prohibited. Finally they began using fishing apparatus not allowed by the regulations, and one of their vessels was seized. The arrangement made by Great Britain is a departure, from the colony's fishing regulations.
