CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The Auckland Customs returns for the month of September have been compiled, and are given below. A decided increase on the corresponding month of last year in the export ot silver and gold is shown, and there is also an increase in butter and tenax exported. There is a decrease in the Customs duties, but a slight increase in the beer duty. Below are the returns, as well as the figures for September of Inst year: — EXPORTS. Gold: 21,0450z, value £84,441, against 16,7990z, value £66,826, exported during tho corresponding month of last year. Silver: 186,7530z, value £18,885, against 111,7870z, value £11,354-. Produce: Butter, 395cwt, value £2034, against 216cwt, value £1169; cheese, 18cwt, value £54, against 14|cwt, value £39; oats, 273 bushels, value £35, against 364 bushels, value £47; wheat, 161 bushels, value £35, against 132 bushels, value £26. Meats: Beef (frozen), 61icwt., value £107, against 130cwt, value £297, and 548 qrs——value £943; kidney?, 64cwt, value £120, against nil;' mutton (legs), 9cwt, value £19, against 25cwt, value £41; pork, 4£c\vt, value £13, against nil. Phormium Tenax: 459 tons, value £14,801, against 213 tons, value £4075. • Potatoes: New Zealand, 8j tons, value £10, against 13 tons, value £116; foreign, 11 tons, value £102. IMPORTS. The Customs duties amounted to £55,966 9s, against £57,350 12s 7d. Beer duty: £1612 ~ 6s 9d, against £1471 2s 7d. * ,
