New Zealand Herald Offio©, Saturday evening. Business was unusually quiet on the sharemarket to-day, < and was confined to two mining stocks. Waihis sold at £8 17s 6d, £8 17s, £8 18s 6d, and £8 18s, and closed with sellers at £3 18s 6d, and buyers at £8 17s 6cl. Talismans changed hands at 31s and 31s 6d, and more wore wanted at 31s 6d, late sellers asking 31s 9d. There were buyers of Waiotahis at 32s 9d, and of Waihi Grand Junctions at 595; sellers of the former asked 33s 3d, while in Grand Junctions there were no .declared sellers. Less favourable accounts of the American and Canadian spring harvests have strengthened the market there, and have caused a hardening in Europe Prices on the French markets have advanced, owing to a reduction of the official estimate to £40,800,000 quarters. Cargoes • are neglected, 30s is offering for new crop for shipment; Australian on the spot is dull at 31s to 31s"6d. There is little business, owing to the plentifulness. Flour shows a slight improvement, but Australian is slow of sale at 2ls 6d ex store. BUTTER. The butter market is hardening. Danish, 1268; choicest Australian is in strong demand, salted at 116s to 118s, and unsaltcd at 118s to 1225; secondary is quiet. CHEESE. Market very firm. Canadian, 655. MONEY MARKET.
