FIRES.
HOTEL AND CONTENTS DESTROYED AT NELSON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Saturday. The Foxhill Hotel, formerly Mr. Ga.ukrodger's, and latterly Mr. Hyde's hostelry, was burnt down last night. The hotel consisted of 20 rooms. All the inmates escaped, but a dog was burnt to death. Noth- j ing was saved. The building was insured for £500 in the South British. Mr. Hyde is a great loser, his losses including his Crimean medals. His belongings were insured in the Northern Office for £150. COTTAGE BURNED AT POUAWA. [BY TELEGRAPH,—OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Gisborne, Sunday. Mr. R. Baker's four-roomed house at Pouawa was burned down on Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Baker and two children escaped in their nightclotlies, and everything excepting a few blankets and one or two other articles were destroyed. There was an insurance of £150 on the furniture in the National, and £250 on the house in the State Fire Insurance office. The estimated loss on the houso and furniture above the insurance is £400.
