THE MAKETOTE VIADUCT.
[BY telegraph.—special correspondent.] Wellington, Sunday. Writing of the Maketote viaduct the Taihape Post 6ays: — The most formidable work of the kind now remaining to be done on the North - Island Trunk line is. supposed to be finished by June of next year, three years from the time the contract was signed. It is 896 ft long and 9ft wide. On the top it crosses the creek nearly 300 ft above the bed of the stream, and is supported oil trestles narrowing from 84ft at the" bottom to 36ft at the top, and resting on enormous blocks of concrete.
