A Gold Medal and Fifty Guineas, a Silver Medal and Twenty-five Guineas, and a Bronze Medal and Ten Guineas will be awarded by the Mines Department for Essays on the present condition and future prospects of the Mineral Rosources of New Zealand, and the best means of fostering their development. In judging the merits of the Essays preference will be given to those which are of a practical character. The Essays must be sent in to the UnderSecretary for 'Mines, Wellington, signed with a Motto and accompanied by a sealed envelope, containing the author's > name and address, on or before Ist December. 1906. The Essays will be submitted to a Board of three persons (to be hereafter appointed), on whoso decision the above prizes will be awarded. .
