ATHLETIC NOTES.

THE INTER-ISLAND MATCH. [BY THLElillAl'H PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, .Wednesday. UnEAT interest is being taken in the North v. South Island match, to be played at the Athletic Park on Saturday. Since the good performance put up by the Otago team against Wellington tiie chances of the South Island have brightened up considerably. The North Island combination will be without the services of Roberts (halfback) on account of an injury received whilst playing against Hawke's Bay, and his place will be taken by H. Kiernan (Auckland). Glasgow (Hawke's Bay), another member of the late New Zealand team, is also unable to assist the North Island, and his place will be taken by T. Cross (Wellington). It is more than likely that Wallace will also be unable to play, in which case J." O'Lcary (Wairarapa) should have a chance of inclusion, as Mitchinson (Wellington) is incapacitated. ' The Aucklanders chosen to represent the North Island in the inter-island watch, to be played at Wellington on Saturday, left for the South' by the Rotoiti yesterday afternoon. They are Dufty (fullback), Kiernan (halfback), Gillet't (wing-for-ward), Seeling, Francis, and Dunning (forwards), Kiernan replaces Roberts (Wellington), who, owing to an injury to his leg, is unable to play. " HOCKEY. AUCKLAND V. THAMES. The return hockey match, Auckland v. Thames, played at the polo, ground, Remuera, yesterday, resulted in a win for Auckland by four goals to two. Soon after the bully-off Auckland set UD ft hot attack, but good work by the Thames backs prevented a score. About half-way through the second spell Thames made an assault on the Auckland goal and scored. This caused Auckland to liven up. and Young shot an easy goal from a pass by Doyle. Thames returned to the attack and once again scored. Half-time was called shortly afterwards. Upon resuming play became very fast, both sides putting in some tine combined play, but the players were, rather handicapped by the long grass. Young (Auckland) was the first to score, and then Thames rushed the ball back from the bully and Whitehead allot a goal, but it was disallowed owing to his being offside. Mason next, scored for Auckland, and shortly afterwards Mather put one into the net. Shortly before time was called V. G. Kavanagh. of the Auckland team, received a blow on the, nose from an opponent's stick and he was obliged to retire. The whistle sounded soon after, leaving Auckland winners by four goals to two. Mr, Wright referred to the satisfaction of both teams. AQUATICS. NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB. The. twelfth annual meeting of the North Shore Yacht Club was held in the Council Chambers, Devonpoit, last night. The commodore (Mr. W. A Wilkinson) presided, and there was a large attendance of members and supporters. The annual report stated that "no doubt the unsportsmanlike behaviour of some of the club's members would still be fresh in the memory of those attending the club's last annual meeting, when after the election of officers about eight or nine of the members, including some of the officers of the previous year, left the meeting and formed a club to their own liking." However, the' present officers and committee, after being elected, had decided to carry on the business of the club to the best of their ability. The committee recommended that the annual subscription be reduced to encourage boats belonging, to other clubs to race with the North Shore Club and alio to increase the membership. The balance-sheet showed that, the receipts were £18 3s lOd and the expenditure £1* lis 10d, leaving a credit balance of £3 lis lid. The report and balancesheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:— Commodore, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson (re-elected); vice-commodore, Mr. C. .1. Colling*; rear-commodore, Mr. T. Le Huguet; treasurer, Mr. H.
