HAWKE'S BAY; CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. [bt MLEURVPH.— association.] Napier, Wednesday. The Hawke's Bay golf championship tournament -was commenced on the Napier Golf Club's links to-day. The entries constitute a record for a provincial tournament. The weather was beautifully fine. The following are the results: — Men's Bogey Handicap: G. King (18) 1 up; J. K. Thorbum (18), square; Kawhi (2). 1 down; W. J. Peacock (11), 1 down • J. Harold (2), 2 down; H. J. Smith (s)' 2 down; H. Appleby (11), 2 down. Thirty-six competed. Ladies' Bogey Handicap: Mrs. A. Seiffert (7), 5 up, Mrs. J. F. Jardine (5), 4 up; Miss Davis (7), 3 up; Mrs. A. A. Kennedy (4), 3 up; Mrs. Moore (8), 3 up; Miss Scott (owes three), 1 up. Thirtyfour competed. . ... - Men's Championship: Kurupo Tareha, G. F. Thofburn, J. Harold, H. Peacock, A. Barraud, F. L. Gordon, H. D. Bates, H. Kawhi, V. E. Harman, Kapi Tareha' D. W. Strang, H. J. Smith, N. R. Russell, F. S. Pearce, W. J. Peacock, and C. Bennett qualified for the first round. Ladies' Championship: Miss Beatson Miss Scott, Mrs. Kurupo Tareha, Miss McLean, Mrs. J. F. Jardine, Miss Fannin, Miss Jardine, Miss Fitzherbert, Mis« Balfour, Miss Bennett, Miss '• Newboidd, Miss Braithwaite, Miss Carter, Miss Moore, Miss Knight, and Miss' Todd qualified for the first round.
