TRAMCAR AND MOTOR IN COLLISION.
CHAUFFEUR'S LUCKY ESCAPE. Shortly after two o'clock yesterday afternoon, a tramcar arid a motor car came into collision in Symonds-street, the motor car being somewhat damaged, and the chauffeur having a lucky escape. It seems that Dr. Challinor Purchas' motor car, driven by his chauffeur, Fred. Curtis, was about to cross the tramway tracks in Symonds-street, near the doctor's residence, when a down car came aiong. .The chauffeur waited till this car had passed, and then started his vehicle across the tracks, failing to notice the approach of an up car, No. 11, driven by Motoruian Frederick Bolton, which was concealed from view for- a moment or two ■ by the downward travelling car. The motor car was struck near the rear wheels 1 by the tramcar, and thrown off the line. One of the motor car wheels was badly smashed, and the vehicle also received a straining, but the chauffeur escaped with a severe shake.
