BRIGANTINE DEFIANCE REFLOATED.
[BY TELKGHArH.—OW.V CORBKSPOXDEXT.] Kaivara Heads, Wednesday. The brigantine Defiance, iwhich was stranded on the North Spit at Kaipara on August .1; 27, was successfully towed off by the steamer Ohinemuri at nine o'clock this morning. The Defiance whilst bound from Newcastle to Kaipara had to put into Auckland in July last in distress, having met with bad weather in the Tasman Sea. After being repaired at Auckland she resumed her voyage to Kaipara, and whilst beating in over the bar there went ashore. The vessel was abandoned, and was sold at auction at Auckland to Messrs. J. J. Craig. Limited, and Mir. Newman, for £20. The purchasers have made a smart salvage, the vessel being successfully refloated on the first attempt made. The Defiance is stated to have suffered very little damage, and will be towed / to Helensville for repairs. I
