AKARANA RIFLE CLUB. The annual meeting of members of the Akarana Rifle Club was held in Jarrett'a Buildings, Swan-eon-street, last evening, Mr. F. Kearsley (president) being in the chair. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance on the year's operations of £12 Ba, The committee's report stated that the club's range at Penrose was one of the best equipped and most complete in the colony. The championship of the club was carried off by Mr. M. Atkinson, who took Mr, F. Kearsley's (president) shield, to be held for one year, and with it a gold medal presented by the president. In the A class Mr. J. J. Buchanan won Mr. M. M. McCalluin's cup and Mr. W. Cox .Mr. Johns' trophy (a silver-mounted walkingstick). In the B class Mr. C. A. Lee took Mr. J. Adams' trophy for the highest aggregate for the season, Mr. Willoughby Mr. J. Adams' medal, Mr. J. Anderson Mr. W. Thornea' medal, and Mr. A. G. Cooke the club's trophy. . The club's membership had been well maintained, and the best thanks of the members:were due to the president (Mr. Kearsley) for his lively interest in the welfare of the club and handsome trophies given for the championship matches, and to Messrs. W. Thome, M. M. McCallum, F. Coombes, F. V. Kelly, .1. Adams, and W. Johns for trophies. The president distributed the prizes won during last season. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as under Patron, His Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunket); vice-patron, the Hon. A. Pitt (Minister for Defence); president, Mr. F. Kearsley; vice-presidents, as last year, with the addition of Messrs. J. C. Moeky and .1. Endean, Jim.; committee, Messrs. A. O. Manghan. J. Anderson,. Willoughby, J. J. Buchanan, J. F. Atkinson, and A. G. Cooke; auditor. Mr. M. M. McCallum; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr. J. Mcintosh; captain, Mr. A. (J. Manghan; vice-captain, Mr. A. G. Cooke. It was decided to open the club's range on Saturday, October 13, with a match between team* chosen by »the captain and vice-captain. Messrs. A. W. Irvine, S. Colson. Attwell, Nicholls, and T. Mark were elected members of the club.
