MEETINGS.

ONE-TREE HILL ROAD BOARD. A meeting of tho One-tree Hill Road Foard was held in tho Newmarket Borough Chambers last evening:. Mr. E. W. Burton was in the 'chair, and the following members were present: Messrs. J. M. Laxon, C. McKinney, B. B. Devereaux, and W. Wall.' The. Board agreed to contribute £10 towards the cost of removing the piejrs from the' Parnell bridge. Accounts amounting to £91 2s 2d were passed for payment. Consideration of the Tramway Company's report on fares was deferred. It was decided that the dedication of Green Lane Road, from Great North Road to Whitiangi Road, bo accepted on condition ■ that there ho formed a footpath on the southern side of Green Lane Road. The Board also accepted the dedication of Campbell Road. ,■ CENTRAL .MISSION'. "';. ' At a meeting.. of ■ the Auckland Central Mission, held, on ■:• Monday evening, Mr. Harold- Herons was formally appointed " to the work of evangelist to the country .'districts. Mr. Hercus is a young man, and his ability is most favourably spoken of by the various heads.of religious denominations in' Dunedjn. Several applications for the posi-v ;tßon ;^of i deaconcssifOT^thfl^ mission were received and' read, but 'the choice was. left, to a' subsequent meeting. ' Messrs. Black and Hercus will shortly conduct missions .to the railway men ..at Raurimu and Taumarunui.-

" WOMEN'S PARLIAMENT." . A most enjoyable entertainment was held in St. Matthew's Parish Hall last evening. The first part of the evening was devoted to the kinemutograph, Mr. Chas. Cooper having charge. Views of San Fraiionco after the earthquake and revolutionary scenes in Russia were shown. Scenes of mutineers capturing a battleship and the bombardment of a town, as well as humorous pictures were also displayed. The latter part of the entertainment was occupied with a. " Women's Parliament,'.' between 20 and 30 young ladies of Remuera and Epsom.' under ■ tho management of Mrs. Cummins, taking part. The proceedings were most amusing from start, to finish, and pleased the large audience immensely. One honourable member " thought the proceedings were too slow and wanted a few men to liven things up.'' Another member thought that " matrons and old maids should be disfranchised." This displeased an honourable member, who promptly threw a missile at tho offending speaker. Tho entertainment was highly appreciated by the audience. POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of tho Auckland and Suburban Poultry, Pigeon,' and. Canary Association was held last evening in tho Federal Hall. Mr. Charles Grey (president) occupied tho chair, about 40 members being present. The report of the committee on the past year's work showed that four North Island championships were competed for at ' the last show and were won by Messrs. F. 15. Lovelock, J. M. Thomson (2), and E. G. Houghton, for buff _ Orpingtons, Norwich plainhead canaries, Norwich crested canaries, and Yorkshire canaries respectively. The .entries at the last show constituted- a record, and tho opinion of the judges was that the birds exhibited were of the highest class. The treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £45 10s 4d, while the association's assets were valued at £562. The president, in moving the adoption of his report, pointed out, that the association was in a sound financial position, and was greatly indebted to tho public; for the generous support afforded, and be hoped tin-, public interest would be maintained in what was destined to bo a great industry, viz., the producing of eggs and the export of poultry. Tho election of officers resulted in Mr. Grey being unanimously elected president. Messrs. J. B. Tonar, Clem. Bartloy, A. Hedley, J. B. Paterson, W. Griffiths, W. Flicker, G. R. Hutchinson, and J. Walker wore elected vice-presidents. Mr. L M. Thomson was unanimously re-elected secretary and treasurer,. and" Mr. J. B. Paterson assistantsecretary. The committee elected was as follows:— F. B. Lovelock, H. Tattersail, J. Nixon, F. Stonex, T. J. Nieholls, W. G. Mason,- S. Hobbis, C. W. Morton (poultry section); A. J. Vercoe, J. Williamson, F. Harding, B. Lee (canary section); G. Ourrie, R. Pounsford, D. L. Evans, and C. Ceilings (pigeon section). The meeting decided that local judges be secured for the next show.

FRENCH CLUB. At the fortnightly meeting of the French Club, reld last evening at St. Paul's Schoolroom, M. R. Boeufve presiding, the witty comedy" "Le Passage do Venus" was admirably acted bv Messrs. Balham, J. Drummond," Bruce Wallace, and Winter. Mis* Gwendoline Nathan, Miss Harvey, Mr. Fagan and Master McKay represented in the play an American family who had come to listen to the lecture given by the celebrated Professor Labordene (Mr. Drummond) on the transit of Venus. After the play, which was heartily applauded by the large audience. Dr. Briffault gave an interesting account of the last excavations at the Forum in Rome. The discussion on the subject "Are Manners Degenerating?" was resumed, Mr. T. Mahoney opening the debate. Mme. Boeufve, who had recently visited Wellington, declared that she had met with the utmost, courtesy and consideration and kindness on every hand, and had never at any time, or in any country, experienced greater courtesy than in New Zealand. Mr. Clark and M. Francis also spoke, the latter condemning the practice of young girls' for the sake of independence, living in boarding-houses instead of in their own homes. M. Boeufve concluded the meeting by reading, an extract from Lo Temps, relating to the subject under consideration.
