NORFOLK ISLAND NEWS.
Our Norfolk Island correspondent, writing on August 16, states that the steamer Ysabel arrived from Sydney on the morning of the 9th. ' On the passage down she experienced an easterly gale of exceptional violence, but with the exception Of a day or two's detention she came, through the ordeal very well.
The new headmaster of the public school, Mr. Jacobs, with his wife and family, Were passengers by the Ysabel. , The swearing-in of the new Executive Council took place before the chief magistrate in the Courthouse on the morning of August 1. All the members (five) nominated by His Excellency the Governor, together with the secretary, were reappointed, and the two elective members were returned unopposed. The weather has been extremely wet and boisterous, the worst winter we have had for a long time', and fanning in consequence is almost at a standstill.
