Palmerston North, Monday. In the S.M. Court this morning, on the information of the Acclimatisation Society, William Smith was fined 40s, and cost:]; £1 12s, for shooting gray ducks out of [season. . The defence set up was that I the shooting occurred on defendant's own property, and that he therefore had a common law right- to do so. Mr. A. D. Thompson, S.M., held that whatever such right he might have had had been taken away by a subsequent enactment.
