DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTERS.
RAILWAY MATTERS AND THE
RABBIT PEST.

Wellington, Saturday A deputation of Arauri settlers waited on the Minister for Railways this morning to urge the construction of a railway line from Culverden to Waiau. The cost : s estimated at £56,000. The Minister said there were much more important works on hand at the- present time s which must first receive consideration. The deputation then made an ofI fer to find the money for the line by the settlers taking up Government debentures, as was done with the Waihi-Paeroa and other lines. The Minister said that if this offer, were made iu writing he would send it on to the Cabinet with a favourable recommendation.
A Kaikoura deputation waited on the Minister for Lands to-day, and urged that assistance should be given to settlers at Kaikoura in fighting the rabbit pest by procuring and liberating ferrets, and also that the Agricultural Department should inoculate ferrets against distemper. The Minister promised to consider both recommendations.
