ENTERTAINMENTS.
HIS .MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The display of Edison's Pictures again attracted a very large audience to His Majesty's Theatre last owning, every part of tho bouse being filled. The new feature or the programme was a remarkably fine and clever set. entitled " Raffles, the Cracksman," in which a venerable and white-haired member of New York society, who was also an expert pickpocket and burglar, was shown in some, of .his escapades, robbing guests at an evening party, taking the place- of a coachman and robbing the inmates of tho carriage, burglarising a house, etc., and saving his confederate by adopting the disguise of a policeman, subsequently in another disguise actually robbing the confederate himself, and finishing up by escape from capture. Every action of the performers was shown clearly and distinctly. This evening there will be a complete change of programme. OPERA HOUSE. There was a good attendance at tho Opera House last night. The Four Rosebuds were recalled for their dainty dancing and singI ing, and Miss Dolly L'Estrange sang well. Mr. Carl Collier was, as usual, exceedingly funny, and had to respond to many encores. The Carmos (jugglers) were very successful, and did some fine balancing. Mr. Val. Newton was warmly applauded for his rendering of the "Deep Mine Sea." . The Driscolls j were recalled for their clever sketch, and the whole performance concluded with some very good moving pictures. EUCHRE PARTY. A progressive euchre party and dance in aid of the Dovonport Roman Catholic Presbytery fund was held in the Foresters' Hail. Devonport. Inst night. There was a large attendance. A number of interesting games were played and an excellent dance programme was gone through. The music was supplied bv Miss Chatfield and the M.C. was Mr. 0. P. McGnigan, Messrs. .1. Mniiholland and P. Walsh were in charge of die cards. COLLEGE ROLES' BALL. The third annua) ball promoted by the Auckland College Rifles took place in the Royal Albert Hall last, evening, and was attended with' conspicuous success. Tho ballroom was beautifully decorated with bunting and greenery and pink and green festoons, and the floor was perfect. Ample sitting-out accommodation was provided in tho large; upstairs rooms and the gallery. Burke's band supplied tho music for tho programme of 15 dances with two extras. Among the guests were Colonel and Mrs. Reed, Major and Mrs. Major, Mr. and Mrs. McKail Geddes, Captains Kay, Hazard, Lieutenants Pullen, Knyvett, and officers of the Pioneer.
