SPORTING.
A meeting of the Metropolitan Committee -was held last evening, the Hon. E. Mitchelson presiding, eight others being present. The programme of the Waikato Hunt Club for the meeting on September 5 was passed. Licenses for the ensuing year were granted as follows:—Trainers: T. A. Williams J. B. Williamson, F. J. Mncmanemin, ,1. E. Thorpe, R. Thorpe, and D. P. Morraghan. Jockovs: S. W. Hay, J. Mcintosh, M. Ryan, J. N. Buchanan, J. Wilson, W. Wilson, W. O'Connell, F. Howard, and J. O'Connell. If any trainer or jockey whose name is not in the foregoing list requires a license early in August it will be necessary to apply to the secretary at once. B. J. Powers was' granted a probation jockey's license for three months. Gentlemen riders' certificates" were granted to Mervyn Wells and M. H. Tims.
A mooting of the committee of the Auckland Racing Club was held subsequently, the Hon. E. Mitch el son presiding. The figures for the balance-sheet for the past year's operations, to be submitted at the annua) meeting on August, 6, were submitted to the committee and approved. They were of a highly satisfactory character. Accounts amounting to £300 were passed for payment. Banana was shipped to New Plymouth yesterday by the Ngapuhi. en route to Canterbury, in order to fulfil his engagements at the C.J.C. Grand National Meeting next month.
