MARKET QUOTATIONS.

; Sir,—A groat deal of .'correspondence Las passed through your columns in respeot to, the- unsatisfactory, nature <Sfc.tbc market quotations for-butter and eggs.,-, In the first place, why should two or three men' fix a price and bind the buying people to it without consulting them? The producer is not represented on this committee, and: I consider he should be. At the present time why is it 'that farmers' separator butter has remained stationary, while factory has : gone up, and is firming every day? I see there is a Butter and Cheese Makers and Importers' ; Association being, formed, and would suggest to the management, of that . body that they call a meeting of farmers who supply the Auckland market, through whatever' channel, and discuss the possibility of forming a co-operative association to deal I with the disposal of their butter and eggs. That the present condition of affairs is unsatisfactory no one will deny, and as the committee fail to disclose their identity and authority I think-drastic measures snould bo taken to show them this is not Russia, and they are riot the butter autocrats they think they are. .There are buyers in Auckland who arc to-day paying 9d per lb for farmers' separator butter, because it is its value, but then they %re "at a disadvantage owing to these men" buying at Bd. As I am not a buyer you will see I am unbiassed. I trust some ablei pen than mine will take this matter up. George McGee.
