■ «3» . REPORT FROM INSPECTORS. The folliwing: report from the chief inspector of schools for the Auckland district (Mr.. D. Petri©, M.A.) in regard to the views of the inspectors on the question of the inspectorial grading of school teachers was read at yesterday's meeting of the Eductaion Board: — " The inspectors-in-couneil have considered the motions now before the Board relating to the inspectorial grading; of teachers, and the following resolutions were adopted:— The inspectors chink it advisable, that the grading of the Board's teachers be printed in full, and that the document bo communicated to all teachers for their information. 2. They further recommend that the Board j should take expert advice as to the legal responsibilities which the publication of any inspectorial grading of teachers may involve. 3. They recommend that the subdivisions under each-grade for the several recognised classes of positionr bo three instead of six. 4. They recommend that the next revision of the grading be made in July of 1907, so that as few examinations as possible may have to be undertaken during the wet season. In addition to the abo> *, I may myself say that the existing grading is sufficiently complete to afford the Board such general guidance or advice in dealing with appointments and promotions as tho inspectors can offer."" The following motion in regard to the same subject had been tabled b? Mr. G. L. Peacock*:—" (1) That the inspectorial grading of all the teachers, when completed, he open to the inspection of any teachers at th» office of the Beard during office hours; (2) that, until completed, such grading shall not nocossnrily govern the selection by the Board of teachers for promotion." The Chairman (Mr. L. J. Bagnall) said that in view of clause 2 of the inspectors' report it would be wise to defer the whole matter until the Board had had an opportunity" of obtaining legal advice on the question of the* publication of the grading. He moved to this effect, and the resolution was agreed to.
