All over this part of the country extensive preparations are at present being 7 made for a successful dairying- Reason during 1906 and 1907, and good dairy cowa are in great demand. Several of the local creameries are now undergoing considerable extension and repair. On Tuesday afternoon a meeting of the Waharoa ladies was held in Mrs. Mclntyre's house. A strong working and management committee was formed. It was decided to hold a soiree: and concert ill the. local ball on the evening of Thursday, the 12th inst, (he. funds accruing therefrom going towards the. fencing in of the local church ground. Local beekeepers view with satisfaction the proposed formation of a Waikato Beeiteepers' Association. This district is generally considered by experts to be most suitable for beekeeping, a, settler in Waharoa during one season obtaining 3 tons llcwt and 441 of honey and Vcwt of wax from about 50 hivea. After a very succeiswnl season both the Waharoa flaxmills have now closed down for the current winter, the proprietors intending, weather and Toads permitting, to reopen early during the ensuing spring. It is generally understood amongst those interested in the flax industry that during the interim a Waikato ilaxmillei*' association will be formed to promote, the interests of the industry generally,.and to urge upon the Government the necessity of effecting some reform in regard to the present method of grading the fibre. The settlers of Matamsta and Waharoa are considering tho expediency of calling public meetings in their respective district* in order to draw up a list of local, requirements for the "member for Waikato to bring before the Ministry. The metalling of the Gordon-Waharoa Road is generally considered in this locality as one'of the most urgent of local requirements. % " ■ On Friday evening last a well-attended meetins of Liberals wan held in the Settlers" Hall, Matamata. Mr. Moore-Jones presiding. Preliminary to the formation of a local branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation. Mr. J. A. Young, of Hamilton, delivered an address on " Ll.iert.lism: Past and Present," during which the speaker was frequently applauded. After the addrewi a branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation was formed in Matamata. the following officers being elected : —Mr. .1. Kilbride; president; Mr. .1. Farrell, vicepresident : Mr. Moore-Jones, secretary Mr. Philpott, treasurer: and a. sirring committee. The new branch will meet once u month. On Friday evening last, in the local hall, the Wiharoa footballers gave their second socialdance this season. The music was good, the floor was in line order, and dancing was indulged in until early morning. Messrs.
