The two Maori "prophets," Kua and Wereta, have had discussions regarding tkeir mana, "in which it'is asserted Wereta beat his opponent easily. Wereta has gained a great hold on the natives of this coast, and large meetings are being held for the advancement of his views. Rita, chilled by the -reception of the Poverty Bay natives, together with the cold bleak life under canvas, his " mana" flaunted by Wereta., some of his following ill in bed, and others making tracks homewards, and, perhaps worse than all, '"kicker" very short, is talking of packing up and moving en. ' Yesterday there were about a lnm-. dred natives in camp at- Pakawliai, but their let did not seem very happy. Rua complained • that, the local ■" hangers on" were eating him out of house and home.
