AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
A MEETING of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present:—Messrs. S. 0. Brown (in the chair), C. C. Dacre, A. Keyes, J. M. Laxon, W. J. W. I'hilson, J. M. Mennio, G. W. Bailey, W. E. Hutchison, J. Kueen, and 11. Logan, jun.
An apology for absence was received from the Hon. E. Mitehelson.
Removal of Shingle: Mr. W. Coleman, solicitor for Mr. J. Re id, of Motutapu, wrote complaining of annoyance through unauthorised persons taking shingle, etc., from the island. An offender, recently charged at the Police Court, alleged that he took the shingle from below high-water mark, and would continue to do so. The writer requested the Board to take some measures to punish offenders for taking shingle from such parts of the beach as were within the Board's jurisdiction. The letter was reJ erred to the Works and Tariff Committee. The City Garbage: The Ferro-Concrete Company brought under the Board's notice a nuisance occasioned by the garbage from the City Council's carts discharging at the Railway Wharf. The men found it impossible to continue work under present conditions. It. was resolved, on the suggestion of the engineer, to request the Council to have the place where the carts discharged washed and swept every day. Seawall Contract: On the motion of the chairman, the secretary was instructed to a Jib: the Board's seal to" Messrs. JSewson and Col son's contract for the construction of the seawall along (lie harbour frontage. Works and Tariff Committee: The "Works and Tariff Committee recommended that consideration of the proposed rifle range at Narrow Neck, of the letter from Messrs. Russell and Campbell regarding harbour regulations, and of the harbourmaster's report with reference to wharf at Cox's Creek, be deferred. Boom sites were granted to Messrs. Leyland and O'Brien. The committee had considered the letter from the Minister ."or Railway disclaiming responsibility in the matter of delay in the unloading of rails at the Railway Wharf, and had deferred consideration, and asked the Minister to reconsider the matter. The committee also recommended that tenders be invited for castings and forgiugs for works. The report was adopted, and accounts amounting to £12,162 9s Id, as per Finance and Legal Committee's report, were passed for payment, interest, exchange, and commission, totalling £9914- 16s 9d, and salaries, £571 3s 4d.
