CHASE OF CRIMINALS.

A MOTOR-CAR USED.

Thk Rand wick' (Sydney) police had an exciting chase about ten a.m. the utile, day, after two supposed ' housebreakers. Word was sent, to the station that two men were stripping lead off the root of an empty house in Sydney Road, and Senior-Sergeant Sergent, Senior-Constables Jordan and Cubis, and Constable O'Brien, at once hastened to the place. The men and police caught sight of each other at the sauie moment,, and immediately there was a race, the suspected persons making a bid for freedom, and the police in hot chase. The runaways separated, and looked like making their escape, out a passing motor-car was placed at the disposal of the police, and it was i.ent at top speed in pursuit of one of the-Men. . The hitter scrambled over the fence into the grounds of " Normanhuret," and when Senior-Constable Cubis and Senior-Sergeant Serge got over was nowhere to bo. seen. Suddenly, after about ten minutes had elapsed, a movement in the manure heap was noticed, and a man's head appear. Scnior-Constulxc Cuhis at once pounced, on the man, and attested him. ' Ho stated that lie had to come out, 1 as he was' smothering.

Meanwhile, Constable O'Brien had had a merry chase, after the other man. Through empty houses, over roofs, and into back yards the pursued man ran, but O'Brien is the possessor of plenty of pace, and at last lie overhauled the runaway, who was quite exhausted.

. Both men were taken to Randwick police station, and charged with breaking and entering and stealing £10 worth of lead.
