The durableneee of Australian wood is ■well instanced in the case of some old •tumps and logs -which have just been dug up in the course of the paving operations that are being carried;. out at the intersection of Queen and Little Flinders Streets, _ Melbourne. -The logs/have-been underground; for over 60 years, yet where pawn in two the butts show that the wood, even to the outside, is in a perefect state fit' preservation. The pile of yellow hex indeed resembles so much ordinary fire■wood, and it is for sale, but at a figure < which shows that the contractor regards this memento of old-time Melbourne as a, curio »f some value.
