ATTACKED BY MASKED MEN.
The Broken Hill police are investigating a sensational report, given by it man named Augeste Schmidt, living alone in a small house in Piper-street, South Broken Hill. Schmidt, who is a hawker, says that he was attacked in bed by two masked robbers. About one o'clock in the J morning, be says, the door of his house j was pushed open, and the men entered. j Both had their faces concealed by black | masks. One man sprang at him and held I him down on the bed whilst the ether | searched the room. Hr, attempted to seize | the man holding him, but this man hit I him with a stick, apparently an axe ' handle, and he fell back dazed. The men i shortly afterwards left. When Schmidt j recovered lie found his clothes and boxes j had been ransacked, but. nothing w-aa i taken. Smith recently sold some hares, I and he suggests that, having spoke>- to I people, the robbers entered the house to j secure the money he received as the proj ceeds. The men were only in the house I about five minutes. Schmidt -was badly i cut on the head, though the wound i* not : dangerous.
