The troops at the Salisbury' Plain .camp have refused- to eat tinned beef, and have emptied the cans on the- ground. Some of the boards of guardians have destroyed large quantities' of tinned food supplied to the workhouses. ; In consequence of the aversion of the public to the use of tinned meats the traders in England ark threatened with enormous losses. ! Armours, Ltd., of Chicago, have invited the British Medical Association, which gets to Toronto in August, to send a committee of inspection to Chicago, Armours paying the expenses of the visit. The chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Agriculture, to which the Senate's Bill dealing with meat inspection was referred is reported to be endeavouring to modify the measure in the interests of the packers. r FOREIGN FOODSTUFFS. The President of the Local Government Board (Mr. John Burns), says he will, if necessary, ask for legislative powers to be. conferred on the Local Government Board to secure the effective inspection of foreign foodstuffs. |
