MEETINGS.
WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of th* W*it<?mfc*ft County Council was held on Friday. A. lengthy letter was forwarded from '.the Marino Department, which had been address**! to the Minister' by the manager of the Hitlers' Steamship Company, suggesting £15 per annum for the use of th» Waiwera Wharf and £5 per wharf for each of 111* Waipu wharves. The company protested against the charge of £40 pet annum for the Waiwera Wharf and £60 for th-> Waipu wharves as being excessive, stating that th»y only paid the Auckland Harbour Board £15 per aim for the use of the Auckland wharf. The Council decided to reply (jointing out that the expense of ruction and upkeep of the Waiweva Wharf \\a. very heavy, owing to it being opposed to the full force of the ocean swell.' Tie; wharf cost £200 annually to keep in repair, and \\a* used only by the oik- company. On th« Wade and Wlfnngaparon Wharves there bad boon an expenditure of £I*7 ]i> incurred during tin. past two years and .i total revenue not exceeding £10 per annum. The Minister was asked to refuse the request of the company in the interests of the ratepayers. The Council endorsed a petition to Parliament for a grant of £500 for a traffic bridge across tho Waitemnta. Rivcrhnad. A communication was received from the Birkenhead Council asking the Council to appoint a committee to discuss with (Item the question of formulating. a joint scheme for the Northcote and Birkenhead water supply. The Council resolved tha" as steps had already been taken towards raising a loan for a Norlhoote* supply it could not see its way to comply with the request.
AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION. A special meeting of the delegates of t.ho humane branch of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association (registered) wa,, held in tho rooms of the Y.M.C.A., Wellesle.vstreet, on Thursday evening last. Mr R. W. St. Clair (president) occupied the chair, Mr 11. Frost being appointed secretary to the meeting. After some discussion it was decided that the human? branch of the association should be removed to another centre, and Christchurch was supported a& t.ho best place to remove Hi* branch to, which war carried, all the delegates but one voting in favour of the removal to that city.
