HAMILTON'. '""' A fPECiAtj meeting of the Hamilton Building. Society was held on Tuesday evening. ' After handing in their second annual report and balance-sheet, the directors expressed regret that the work of. the society has been greatly bam-, pered by the active opposition of some "of the' shareholders. •'The directors," the report goes on to say, "are firmly convinced that the work of the group can be profitably carried old. but on f- somewhat narrower basis. They could -ssure paving members that their money is quite safe. Shareholders who refuse to remain in the society will forfeit their money, which will be added to Hip general funds and benefit those who are financial." It was determined to levy 3s per share for working expenses and os in six months. a ballot for an appropriation of £300 was drawn. MANURJSWA. This district during the last IS months has shown signs of rapid advancement. A creamery has been established and. several new houses have been erected, besides considerable improvement!? to others. Recently Mr. Tait. manager for the Auckland Flesh Food and Ice Company, met the suppliers of the local creamery Mr. (■*. I). Smith occupied (lie. chair. Mr. Tait said the district had done better than-lie had anticipated. After Riving the farmers some useful advice he made a good offer for next season. This was heartily accepted by the suppliers, and it is hoped next yew's operations will be even more successful than the past. : , , - : One of the most promising things, in the district is the. new stone nuarrv. recentlv opened up by .Messrs. Slight and Coldicutt near to the station. One feature of the. quarry is the enormous size--.of -some, of the blocks, weighing up to between two and three tons. •
