Sydney, May 31. • A Bill for the suppression of gambling is to bo introduced into the State Assem- ', bly next session. It provides that a judge, if not satisfied to the contrary, may issus a certificate practically putting the place where gambling lias been carried on, in legal quarantine. GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S RESIDENCE. Melbourne, May 31. The Premier {Mr. Kent), with reference to lii's demand for rent for Government, House, now used by the Governor-General, has informed Mr. Deakin that he has no intention of charging rent for Parliament House, but asks 53000 a year for the use ' of Government House. C- MURRAY RIVER IRRIGATION SCHEME. MKLBot;u.\f: May 31. The Ministers to-day completed a scheme for combining irrigation with ' wheat-growing along the Murray River frontages. Homesteads will bo granted along the river front of about 40 acres in extent, 20 acres of which will be irrigated. Each homestead will have, in addition, 400 acres of land further back. .The charge- for water for irrigation is not to exceed 15s per acre per annum. THE LATE MR. LANSELL. Melbourne, May 31. The estate of the late Mr. Laneell, the Bendigo mining magnate, has been valued for probate at £600,000. -fyt SERIOUS "CREEP" IN CENTRAL <" MINE. , Sydney, May 31. A serious "creep" has occurred in the ;■ Central mine, at Broken Hill, and it also affects Block 10. The men from both mines have been withdrawn; :. : At the Central mine the floor of the mill has sunk 3ft, throwing the plant out of gear. THE BUNINYONG-CRIPFEL COL- - ' LISION. — ' Sydney, -May 31. ;.;'.' Writs have been issued by the owners of the steamer Buninyoug and the barque < Criffel, in connection with the recent collision. The owners of the steamer claim £7000 compensation, and the owners of the barque £7500.
