MEETINGS.

I TONSON GARLICK COMPANY, LIMITED. THJ| ninth annual meeting of shareholders of the 'fofeni Garlick Company, Limited, was held yesterday. The chairman of directors (the Hon. S. Thorne George) . presided. The annual report, read' by Mr. A. C. Brown, stated:—"The operations of the company during the past year have been very satisfactory. The volume of trade has been exceedingly good, and though business has been keener the results show a substantial balance to credit of profit and loss accountAmple provision has been made for depreciation of factory plant and fixtures. The. stocks of the various departments are all well bought and of an up-to-date character, and have been taken in the slock sheets at a valuation making full provision for depreciation. Your directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 8 per cent., a 5 per cent, bonus on shareholders' purchases, and chat the usual honorarium be voted to the directors." The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet,, congratulated the shareholders on the satisfactory result of the year's • trading, and said that although competition iv.m becoming increasingly keen there wad a substantial balance of profit. All the premises, plant, and stocks of the company were in excellent 'condition, and the finance was on a thoroughly ' sound basis. Mr. George Gregory seconded the motion, which was unanimously, carried. Messrs. A. R. Watson and U. Keesing, the retiring directors, were, declared re-elected, there being no other nominations. Mr. S. 11. Matthews, F..V.Z.A.A., was re-elected auditor. Mr. George C. Garlick moved a. vote of thanks to the chairman, and Mr. Wm. Thorne one to the managers and stall.' both of which were carried by acclamation. The dividend and bonus will be payable on and after Monday next. ESPERANTO SOCIETY. The first annual general meeting of the New Zealand Esperanto, Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. Buildings oil Monday night. Owing to the inclemency of the weather there was only a small attendance at the Chamber of Commerce last evening, at a meeting, organised; by the newly-formed Auckland Provincial Industrial Association, to hear an address by Mr S. Brown, a member of the Arbitration Court, on "The Aims unci Functions of Industrial Associations." Mr. A. Clark who was in the chair, extended a welcome to Mr. Brown on behalf-of-the association. Owing to the weather and the. poor attendance : and other reasons, it was thought advisable, he said, by the members that the meeting should be, postponed to a mote favourable evening, when' he was sure here would be a .better; attendance. Manufacturers, generally would like to hear Mr. Brown, who had had a great deal of experience; 111 fact, he. did not think there was another man in he colonv who had "a hotter knowledge of industrial questions. It was agreed that the meeting should be postponed until next week.
