AUCKLAND EXHIBITS.

— : —_<st*—_—— ''. Th£ Auckland Chamber of Com : merce has wisely decided to arrange for an Auckland Provincial Court at Christchurch, if the various districts interested will cooperate in t-hf ccfttter and if the 10. al bodies will I -contribute. the necessary funds. The j advantage of displaying out - provincial products in <i special court should be obvious to ail concerned, for not only will such a display be much more impressive than it can be if exhibits are scattered round in an indiscriminate manner, but the provincial advertisement will be fully shared by all exhibitors. This aspect of - the question has been promptly seen by some of the othei provinces, such as Southland, where £555 has already been contributed. An Auckland Court, sufficiently large vo ribi-play advantageously and effectively all our provincial exhibits, would cost not more than £700, the estimate of Mr. Holmes, the local secretary to the Exhibition Committoe, being £852, including space, transit, and all other charges. As Napier has vaised £600 and Wanganui £500 for Exhibition purposes, the great province of Auckland .with its numerous local bodies should be able to raise £700 with hardly an effort. By special legislative enactment local bodies ave authorised to contribute for Exhibition purposes— a very desirable provision, as the benefit of provincial displays is largely a. public one. It is proposed to defray, the cost of t.H«>. ituckland Court by these local bodies' contributions, and not to ask for private subscriptions, thus leaving to exhibitors the very considerable expense attaching to the setting up of their exhibits, but -relieving them from all other charges.-. TJVicler the j circumstances we trust that, the ! metropolitan and other provincial bodies will fake- the matte: up as energetically an has been done in the Waikato, where fifteen local bodies have premised to contribute. As so much depends upon provincial co-operation it is to be hoped that the Waikato exhibitors will join in the provincial movement and assist in making the proposed Auckland Court a grand success. With the Waikato, North Auckland, goldfields, and East Coast and City all uniting their energies this Auckland Court ought to be. the most imposing and attractive feature of the National Exhibition.
