EPISCOPAL MISSION AT HAMILTON.

The parochial mission at Hamilton, which is being conducted by the Anglican Bishop of Auckland' (Dr. Neligan), assisted by the Revs. H. R. Jecks, M.A., and H. A. Favell, commenced on Saturday evening with a service for the reception of the missiouers, when the vicar of the parish (the Rev. Norman Radcliffe) welcomed the missioners on behalf of his brethren in the ministry, and of the. the people committed; to his care. The Bishop, addressing the large congregation, said': —"Wife can do nothing without the help of God I the Holy Ghost; let us, therefore, sing our litany to Him, asking- for His help and guidance amd inspiration in this mission." A litany to the Holy Ghost was then sung, Bishop and people taking alternate verses. The Bishop then proceeded to the pulpit, and delivered a short address in preparation for the mission. The services on Sunday throughout the day were most impressive. . At morning prayer the Bishop gave a most helpful mission sermon, and at the special service for men in the afternoon he took as the basis of his remarks the character of Herod. A large number of men attended, and listened with intentness to His Lordship's earnest address. At evensong the Bishop based his remarks upon the cry of Bildad— How can man be justified before God, or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?" His Lordship showed how, through all the ages, under different circumstances, and in various ways, the cry of Bildad was the cry of humanity. To-day it is the same question in every walk of life; from every class of men and women the question is still asked : How can man be justified before God? or how can lie be clean that is born of a woman? And the answer: God' met the call of the weary with a call to the weary— " Como unto Me all ye that are Weary and heavy laden, and' I will refresh you." The question, How can man bo justified? was answered by the appeal from the Saviour to "Come unto Me, and ye shall find rest for your soul." Yesterday nearly all the clergy of the Waikato archdeaconcy arrived in Hamilton to join in the work of the mission. Services aire being held each day this week, beginning with a celebration of the Holy Communion at eight, a.m. The Bishop delivers a course of addresses to business people at noon, and preaches the mission sermon each night at eight o'clock. The Rev. H. R. Jecks is delivering a course of instruction at half-past two, and the Rev. H. A. Favell a course of instruction to children at half-past four. ■
