One .thousand miners have prevented workers returning to the Denain foundaries and the manager .and officials are besieged.

One gendarme has been killed and three officers wounded in fighting that has taken place.

Barricades have been erected in the streets at Lens with railway sleepers. The dragoons failed in an attempt to destroy the barricades.

An army lieutenant has been fatally stoned.

Reinforcements have been ordered to the district. },
