PETROLEUM BORING.
Thk Taranaki Herald, of Saturday last, says:—After some weeks of vexatious delay and troublesome work, involving, the lifting of the whole of the Sin casing, and replacing it with 6in, Mr. Fair completed the necessary change of casing on Friday evening. The 6in casing how reaches to the bottom of the bore, 2210 ft, and rests on. a solid bottom. The object of this is to shut off the water which has hitherto prevented the flow of oil. This morning Mr. Fair stated that, as far ae it was possible to judge, the water difficulty appeared to be overcome, but until he clears the bore of the mud and silt which has accumulated while lifting and lowering the case he cannot speak with absolute certainty. In his opinion, however," the prospects haTe never been so encouraging as they are now. Next week he will clean the bore out, and in a few days it will be possible to say with confidence what is going to be the result. If patience and perseverance, combined with hard work and skill, entitle him to success he richly desen - to succeed.
