New Zealand Herald Office, Monday evening. A pair amount of business was done on the Stock Exchange to-day. In standard stocks Bank of New Zealand.? sold at £7 12s 6d, and closed with sellers at £7 Us, and buyers at £7 12s. National Banks, which were quoted (ex "rights"), were in demand at £5 9s, with sellers at £5 15s. Northern Steamships (paid up) were disposed of at 17s 3d, with further buyers at that price, sellers holding for 17s 6d. There were buyers of Auckland Electric Tramways at £11 (ex div.), but no business resulted, no sellers being' quoted. New Zealand and River Plates sold at. 30s 6d, with late sellers at 30s 9d, and buyers at 30s 3d. D.S.C.'a chanced hand, at Bs, with other inquiries at 7s' lOd holders asking 8s 2d. In mining lines Waihis sold at £7 Bs, with more on offer at that price, and buy MS at £7 6s 6d. Waiotahis were done at £6 17s 6d, and more wore available at tin- same figure, late buyers offering £6 17s. Talismans continued to recede, selling from 25s 6d down to 24s 9d, ami closing with sellers at 255, and buyers at 24s 9il. Kuranui-Caledonians sold at 2s 3d and 2s 7d, late sellers quoting the former ami late buyers the latter price. New Saxons wore sold at Bid, late sellers 9d, buyers Bd. WELLINGTON FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKET [BY TBLKQRAfM.—OWK CORRKSPONDBNT.] WBLLINGTOK, Monday. In spite of the inclement and wintry weather during the week, business in the wholesale fruit markets was well up to the previous week's strong tone, and with the shipment of bananas, oranges, and mandarins from Fiji, per Navua, a large quantity of fruit was auctioned. For Fijian bananas "the keenest competition resulted, and the volume brought forward was scarcely up to requirements. A large quantity of the Fijian, oranges were condemned. The market was strong for this fruit. Queensland pines sold well, up to 14s per case being realised. New Zealand lemons were worth from 4s to 5s per case. There were moderate prospects for the firs, shipment of Tasmanian pears, which arrived on Saturday, all selling well. Locally grown brought from 12s to 15s per case far choice; prime, 3a to lis; and stewing, from 3s to_ ss. Quinces brought from 3s to 4s per case. There was a fair demand for Cape gooseberries, which brought 5d per lb. Plums realised from 5s 9d to 4«i 9d per box; peaches, 3s to 4s; apples, choice dessert, from 8s to 10s; prime, from os tojs 6d; large green cookers, choice, from 5s to os case. Tomatoes were slightly weaker, and are now worth from is to 6« per box. Passion fruit was in overmpplv at * bd per box. • The potato market has advanced. Prime are now quitting at Us to 12s per cwt. Onions remain steady at 7s od per !wt for Auckland grown. Eggs had an excellent outle* during the week, realising le 8d to Is 3d per dozen. Prices are now weakening. J. tie market will be much lower after Easter. Preserved brought from Is 4d to Is 5d per dozen. Th- inquiry for honey is strong, for the Eastertide an increased demand for all lines should be manifest.
