A MEDICAL GRIEVANCE.
ELECTION OF THE HOSPITAL HONORARY STAFF.
At the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's Meeting yesterday afternoon a communication was read from Dr. T. R. Inglis, secretary of the honorary medical staff of the hospital, covering the resolution passed by the staff, in which it was noted with regret that on three occasions the number of votes given to successful and unsuccessful candidates for positions to the honorary staff had been published in the pre=s. The honorary staff suggested to the Board that such publication wts undignified and injurious, and that it would, therefore, he well in the future to avoid such information being given to the press. The. Chairman of the Board (Mr. McLeod) said it was not within the Board's power to deal with the matter. The press might, if it choose, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the resolution. The only way to meet the doctors' wishes in such cases' was to consider the applications in committee. That course was open to objection. Mr. 0. Knight thought tho Board could do nothing in the matter. The press madeno exceptions in cases of elections to public bodies, publishing the names of successful and unsuccessful candidate.? alike, with the votes given them. Mr. L. J. Bagnall thought that nothing should bo done to cause a slight to unsuccessful candidates. Mr. W. R. Bloomfield did not think members were responsible for what, the press did; but there, was no necessity to make public the information referred to by the doctors. The Chairman said the same course was followed this year as last. The doctors took no notice of it then. Mr. A. Bruce held that the Board could do nothing in the matter. The Board should by all means avoid permitting its proceedings to develop into hole-and-corner proceedings.
The matter then dropped.
