AUCKLAND ASSESSMENT COURT.

OBJECTIONS TO CITY VALUATIONS. A sitting of the Assessment Court for the city of Auckland was held at the Magistrate's Court before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., yesterday morning, for the purpose of bearing objections to tho valuation list. Mr. Edward Hickiing. city valuer, appeared in support of tho valuation?.

Arscott objected to & valuation of £95 upon his property, consisting of four dwellings, in East-street, upon the grounds that the valuation was unwarranted. The city valuer said the property was somewhat undervalued, and the valuation was sustained.

Mr. J. J. Craig opposed a ratable value of £150 being placed upon a wooden building and allotment in Mechanics' Bay. Mr. E. A. Craig, brother of the objector, anpeared, and submitted that a valuation of i9o would be a fair one. The. valuer consented to the reduction asked for, and the valuation was fixed at £96. T. G. De Renzey opposes) a valuation of -30 upon his property, consisting of brick offices in Princes-street, an increase of £10 on the previous valuation. The valuation, by consent, was reduced to £55. -lames Maxwell, the ownei of several allotments in John-street, considered that the valuation of £14 placed upon his p~p««S was excessive. The city valuer held that the allotments, with a fronUge of 120 ft were worth £3 per foot, and the valuation >>« sustained.

Objecuons were raised by Alfred Bartlott ana , lv. L. 1 inch to valuations of £190 each hems placed on their properties, situated in Queen-street. Mr. Hitfcling called Mr p G. Lwington, estate agent, who said he d-d not think that ho would have any difficulty getting tenants at £5 per week for both snops. here was a greater demand for shops now than 12 month., ago. The magistrate said that upon the evidence he did not consider the valuations excessive, and they were accordingly upheld. Iho valuation of £200 upon Mr. Thos leacock property, alongside the properties of Messrs. Bartlett and Finch was also firm U9d i - Ml Peacock said * considered £1/0 a fair valuation, but Mr. Ewineton thought he would have no difficulty in Rotting Mr Peacook a rental of £5 per week tor his shop. The valuations of £16 and £40 on James Andersons dwellings in Alexandra-street were reduced to £14 and £38 respectively.
