HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE. AID BOARD.
The ordinary mooting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. J, McLeod (chairman), L. J. Bagnall, A. Sturges, W. R. Bloomfield, J. G. Rutherford, M. Casey, A. Bruce, C. Grey, and G. Knight.
Infectious Diseases Hospital: The chairman laid on the table the plans for the new infectious diseases hospital, to be erected in the hospital reserve, as approved by the district health officer (Dr. Frengley), and moved that tenders to called for the erection of the buildings. The plans were prepared by the' Board's architect (Mr. E. Bartley), and have already been described in the Hekalu. The Board decided I liar tenders be called, returnable to next Board meeting. The chairman said the hospital was most urgently needed, and no time should he lost in getting on with the work. Complaint by the Police: Inspector Cullen complained of the driving of the hospital ambulance on the occasion of a man named Thomas Conway, who was suffering from a gunshot wound, being removed from Newmarket station to the hospital by the police on March 31. The communication was referred to the Charitable Aid Committee. The chairman said 'the Board must take .some drastic measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. The Board's Architect: The following were the applicants for the position of architect to the Board:—.Messrs. G. W. Allsop, A. Atkins, K. Hartley, W. A. dimming:, K. Jenkinson, It. W. de Montalk, and Henry S. Morran (Auckland), Mason and Wales (Dunedin), 11. 8. Routhwaite (Wellington), Seager and Wood (Christchurch), and L. 11. White (Palmerston North). The applications were referred 1 to the Building Subcommittee, which will submit three names to the Board. The Public Dispensary: Dr. Hooper reported 35 new cases. The average daily attendances were nine; average daily visits, three. There was one death, due to bronchitis. Hospital Patient;!: The- Hospital Committee reported that there were 121 male and 57 female, patients in the hospital; in the infectious diseases wards four male and six femalo patients. There were six deatlts in the hospital. Medical Staff: The Medical Committee reported that it had decided bylot that in 1907 Drs. Bull and Inglis should retire, and that in 1908 Drs. Roberton and Savage should retire, and that in 1909 Drs. Frost and Gore Gillon should retire. The Medical Committee also reported that Dr. Roberton was elected chairman and Dr. Inglid secretary to the committer. Approved. Drs. Walsh and Aickin wrote accepting reappointment for another year. The appointments were confirmed. The appointment of Dr. Marchant as locum tenens to Dr.' Blair was approved. Costley Home: The Board resolved to expend £25 in prospecting for water at the Costley Home site, where it was reported a good supply might be obtained by sinking. Mr. Bloomfield expressed his pleasure at this step, as the water charges were a very serious item in the home's accounts, and, furthermore, the whole question of water charges by the Manukau Water Trust was to be considered 1 by local residents with a view to a reduction.
