ANGLO-COLONIAL NOTES.
[FROM OCR OWN correspondent.] London, March 2. Last Tuesday afternoon, at the annual meeting of the Fellows of the Royal Colonial Institute, the Prince of Wales was re-elected president.
Messrs. W. Weddcl and Co. write me that the demand for Australian butter on the spot has been good, and buyers have had some difficulty in tindifig brands of strictly "choicest" qualities, as these were in great scarcity. I ant informed to-day by Messrs. Charles Balme that during the past fortnight the position in the manufacturing centres has further improved, and values for both fine and coarse wools have again advanced, quotations for " tops" now standing well above those current at the close of the January sales. • Sir Howard Vincent has introduced a Bill, which is supported by Mr. Chamberlain, to amend the Merchandise Marks Act. 1887. It. provides that all goods of foreign manufacture that might be assumed to be of British or Trish make shall net be imported into the United Kingdom unless they bear, words, "foreign," or " imported," if from a foreign country, and "colonial." if made in a British colonv.
