SOUTHERN RAILWAYS.
I'riV TELEGRAPH.-—PRESS ASSOCIATION*.]
Ciiristchcrcii, Sunday. Yesterday morning, while on a short visit to Cheviot, the Minister for Public Works was driven over the railway route between McKenzie and the Waiau River, and was shown the deviation suggested, so as to cross the Waiau River below the presentsite. The Minister was not favourably impressed, as the route was lengthened, and was made more difficult. Subsequently a deputation waited on the Hon. Hall-Jones with regard regard to the railway coming closer to McKenzie. The present site of the station for McKenzie is at Mina, two miles away, and the township is also there. The McKenzie people wished the railway to come nearer their town, or that an undertaking should be given that 110 township would be surveyed at Mina. The Minister promised to have a fresh survey of the line beyond Domett made, and quite agreed that it was inadvisable that there should be two townships so close together as Mina and .McKenzie.
