The election of a captain was deferred till the first match.
At the Croquet Club's lawn on Wednesday afternoon the Mayor (Mr. W. F. Auckland) presented the prizes to the winners of the recent ladies' competition. ; Miss R. Skect was the recipient of a handsome rose bowl, presented by Mrs. Phillips, of the Straits Settlements, while Mrs. Alan 801 l received the club's prize. A special meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council will be held on Monday next, to consider the * recommendations of the engineer and committee in connection with the proposed municipal gasworks. A meeting of the committee of the Cambridge Chrysanthemum Society was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. A. V. Stone presiding. It was resolved that Mrs. James Holly be asked to act in conjunction with Mr. 11. 11.I 1 . Whitely, in judging the floral portion of the forthcoming show, and that Mr. Whitely be asked to judge the cut blooms. Messrs. SlcDermott, R. ,T. Roberts, and Rothbone were appointed stewards. It was resolved to ask Mis. Boston-Couper to superintend the afternoon tea arrangements at'the show. Mr. Wells reported that, as requested by the committee, he had grown and distributed plants to the members, the privilege having been largely availed of. The quarterly meeting of the office-bearers of St. Paul's Methodist Church was held at. Cambridge on Tuesday evening, the Rev. :W. 11. Beck presiding. The receipts for the quarter showed a slight deficit, which was attributed to the number of wet Sundays. The financial statement of the bazaar held' recently under the | auspices of the Ladies' Guild showed a. profit j of £71, which it was decided to expend in liquidation of the circuit debt. 'A resolution was | carried, placing on record the splendid efforts of the guild of ladies in ■ connection with the j bazaar, particularly Mrs. Beck, who organised the affair.
