Business in the , local fruit and produce markets during the past week has been again .fairly busy. Supplies of many lines were under requirements, more particularly in potatoes. Fair quantities came to hand from Waikato and other' local districts, which were generally of fair, average quality. Only small quantities were received from the South, and a few from Sydney. In onions, all stocks left over from last' week have been practically cleared, and the market is now bare, with many inquiries, There was no change in vegetables. In dairy produce only very email quantities of farmers' butter were sent in to the auction sales, and generally real. ised factory rates. Fresh eggs were, again 'scarce, but there was an increase in pickled lots, and all met with a brisk demand. Cheese, bacon, and hams were in average supply, without? alteration in values. Poultry was 'in very heavy supply, and prices ruled low. The bulk" of consignments consisted of poor birds. There was practically no demand for young pigs, and prices were extremely low. In fruit there was a marked falling' off in local supplies, and there was a scarcity of anything in the- shape of choice varieties, with the exception of grapes. Late varieties of the. latter have been grown this season in very large quantities, and supplies are greatly in excess of any previous season at (his time, of the year. There was a shorter supply of outdoor varieties, and prices consequently firmed Lemons were difficult to quit, owing to the cold weather prevailing. The majority of the pears sent in.; were only of medium and poor clans'. During the past three weeks small quantities have come, from Melbourne. \ The Navua landed a moderate cargo of bananas from Fiji on Tuesday ! in good condition, and, the market, being bare, high prices were realised.
